Live Fish Green Terror Cichlid | Single
The Green Terror Cichlid is a large, highly ornamental freshwater fish native to the rivers of Peru and Ecuador in South America, admired for its metallic green-blue body, shimmering facial markings, and orange-edged fins, with adult males often developing a noticeable forehead hump. Its name “Green Terror” comes from its metallic green sheen and notoriously aggressive temperament.
Appearance
This species is prized for its metallic green-blue body, iridescent facial markings, and striking orange or gold edging on the dorsal and tail fins, while mature males often develop a prominent forehead hump that enhances their display value.
Size & Lifespan
In home aquariums, the fish typically grows to about 15–20 cm (6–8 inches), though it can become larger in ideal conditions, and it can live for approximately 7–10 years when provided with proper care.
Tank Requirements
A spacious aquarium of at least 200 liters (50+ gallons) is recommended for a single fish, with strong filtration, stable water conditions, and decorations such as rocks, caves, or driftwood to create territories and hiding spots.
Water Conditions
The species thrives in warm tropical freshwater with temperatures between 20–28 °C, a pH range of 6.5–8.0, and moderate hardness.
Temperament
The Green Terror Cichlid is aggressive and highly territorial, particularly during breeding periods, making it unsuitable for peaceful community tanks and best kept alone or with large, similarly robust fish.
Diet
It is primarily carnivorous, feeding on high-quality cichlid pellets as a staple along with protein-rich foods such as shrimp, bloodworms, and other live or frozen treats.
